The purpose of Baker's Choice is to build students' algebraic skills using a multi-stage linear programming problem. The unit presents the students with the eponymously named problem at the beginning so that they understand the ultimate objective of their efforts. Along the way to solving Baker's Choice, students work with problems that explore number theory, algebraic expressions, inequalities, graphing, and linear programming. Students complete these problems by working collaboratively with their peers and by representing their work through presentations, reports, and portfolios.
The following pages will provide work from a selection of the problems that foster students' ability to solve Baker's Choice.
